NUITS D’AFRIQUE SOUNDSYSTEM : Spoek Mathambo + The Salivation Army
Price: 15 $
Société des arts technologiques [SAT]
1201 boulevard Saint-Laurent, Montréal
Description of the concert:
After last year’s phenomenal success, Nuits d’Afrique and Masala, a top show on CISM, a blog and a digital label bring back the World 2.0 electro soirées. Live performances and DJ sets: the unlimited possibilities of new technologies intersect with Nuits d’Afrique authenticity.
“You need to blow up musical and intellectual boundaries!” From Johannesburg, his home town, to Malmö, where he now lives, by way of Europe’s trendiest discothèques, Spoek Mathambo claims his eclecticism. On his second album, Father Creeper, which came out in March, he seeks to move beyond the clichés of rap and also of rock, electro and jazz. His wild blends of kwaito, electro and funk always leave room for the South Africa classics he loves.

Under the pseudonym of Salivation Army, Sarah Bernard, a Haitian DJ and singer who arrived in Montreal in 2006, lines up an amalgam of electro and dancehall with world tossed in.
