On a summer evening in 1994, the group Anishnabe was born not far from Lake Simon. That’s when the adventure begins on the icy roads of the vast territory of the first Anishnabe nation of Abitibi. For over fifteen years, the five musicians deliver an authentic folk music with wild rock scratches. Between rage and hope, songs of Anishnabe recount the experiences of musicians and reflect their sense of belonging to a nation that proudly advance towards its destiny.
In 1999, the band released an album of thirteen songs,”Mamedenennen”. A first musical effort to discover an American continent’s treasures of the Anishnabe’s culture. After crisscrossing the country, the group has refocused on itself to produce a new album for this summer. To listen to the covenant words and melodies of Anishnabe is beginning a spiritual journey on the sacred land of Abitibi. Eyes gazing toward the horizon, feet firmly grounded in the eternal ice.
