Corde Sud is a group of four musicians from Mexico, Ecuador and Quebec. Established in Montreal, they are passionate about rhythms, colors and textures of plucked string instruments of South America. Since the release of their most recent album Les Cinq Temps, Corde Sud has presented on stage the richness, the diversity and the instrumental musical liveliness of the Americas, through original and authentic pieces exploring the styles and the rhythms of the Mexican jarocho sound, the Ecuadorian sanjuanito, the Colombian pasillo, the Peruvian waltz and the Bolivian bailecito, tinged with traditional and contemporary influences from Montreal and from the whole province of Quebec.
Corde Sud’s creative approach is built on the South American instrumental folklore, the refinement of classical music, the French-speaking song tradition and the freedom of improvisation. On stage the band offers a rare and remarkable balance between acoustic intimacy and festive spirit.
