Diogo Ramos is a singer-songwriter from São Paolo, Brazil. His music follows in the tradition of Brazilian popular singers. His studies in music, starting at age 13 and focusing on the guitar, led three years later to the Vinicius de Moraes award for his work as a guitarist.
In 2010, he left Brazil to settle in Montréal, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in guitar performance at the Université du Québec à Montréal. He soon made a name for himself on the Montréal musical scene, collaborating with artists including Paulo Ramos, Bia Krieger, Flavia Nascimento, Rommel Ribeiro and Blanche Baillargeon.
He has worked professionally for the last 20 years as a music producer, with 15 albums to his credit. In 2012, he produced the album Egológico Recycle, which earned Rommel Ribeiro a 2012-2013 Révélations Radio-Canada award in the world music category. In 2014, he produced the album O Momento Presente é Azul by the renowned artist Paulo Ramos.
The year 2018 marked the release of his album Samba sans Frontières in which he pays tribute to his country of adoption with the performance of pieces by Gilles Vigneault, Félix Leclerc and Pierre Perreault along with his own compositions in which Portuguese and French intermingle. His remarkable guitar and talented lips discover the language of his new country, resulting in Franco-bossa-nova!
Diogo Ramos was the recipient of a research and creation grant from the Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec in 2017. The same year, he obtained a Coup de cœur award from the Conseil des Arts de Montréal and an MATV Coup de cœur award at the MUZ Festival (Vision Diversité), a true showcase for world music in Montréal. In 2019, he received a Complices du MAI award (Montréal Arts Interculturels).
