Jah Nissi was born in Port-au-Prince on October 12th under the name of Ernest Toussaint. Following his father’s advice, he learned bass from one of the best current Haitian artist, Moise Thermitus. He then went to a musical school in Venezuela to take efficient drums lessons. It’s only in 2007, when he first arrived to Canada, that he really started to think about the kind of music he wanted to realize. Those thoughts were profitable considering the fact that it led him to release his first album, « L’Union ». Jah Nissi takes his inspiration from Bob Marley, Alpha Blondy, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Eddy François, and many others. Through his music, he mainly tries to expose Haitian misery and conditions, a sad but real nation’s despair. He stands for reconciliation and is incarnating a figure of hope.
