Biography :

Javi began his career at 13 by doing part of the quartet Locura Azul who played the songs of the legendary band Los Zafiros. Thereafter, he part of the Cuarzo group and, later, the group Coral Latino performing salsa-style songs, merengue,timba, and pop. In 2006, he toured Turkey for 6 months with the group Coral Latino. To his back in Cuba, he joins the renowned Cuban group Charanga Forever, whose performances include dynamic choreographies. Since arriving in Montreal, he continues to compose and produce his songs and video clips, and formed his own group: Javi Mendez y Su Sandunga. The group has performed in various Quebec festivals, clubs, private parties and other corporate events. In 2016, he began a collaboration with Frank Palacios, musical arranger, who has worked in the past with famous groups including, among others: Gente de Zona, Osmani Garcia and Los 4. During the year 2016 he composed and produced, in collaboration with Frank Palacios, 6 new songs, always in the Cuban fusion style by recording two songs in Montreal at Studio SoundStrip with Ricky Campanelli who was named to the Grammys in the past for sound engineer. At the artistic career level, he had the opportunity to work with the American company Big Noise for the period 2015-2016 for artist development. The group participated in the Syli D’Or 2015 and 2016. In 2016, the group arrived in the semi-finals of Syli D’Or, and was awarded the prize Afropop Worldwide Syli D’Or 2016. Also during the year 2016, Al Gomes, of Big Noise advised him that two of his songs are included in the official bulletin of the 59th Grammy Awards in the following categories: Best Pop Solo Performance – ‘Rebeka La Quebeca’ and Best Pop Solo Performance – ‘Reketemenea’.
