Julien Reiher Umojha
Born in Haiti from a healer father and clairvoyant mother, Julien Reiher Umojha is a multidisciplinary artist, who chose a strong symbolic pseudonym, as Umojha means “unity” in Swahili. In 1980, he founded the group Umojha with five friends. He sings love in Creole and French. His music, called Meta-kata, is inspired Afro Haitian, and use of conga gives it a unique style.
The sextet has a drummer, a keyboardist, a bassist, a guitarist, a drummer and a dancer. In 2007, Umojha is rated an honorable mention in the Nuits d’Afrique Sylid’Or showcase. Since then, he continues to walk all the scenes Quebec (Green Coffee, Club Balattou the Absynthe, Festival de Chicoutimi, Festival Nuits d’Afrique, etc.)..
Very involved in the Haitian community, Julien Reiher Umojha is the founding president of the Regroupement des artistes du monde. This group has created a festival of Italian music, the RitalFest, which third edition was held in 2006. He is also a founding member of Culture Montreal and member of the Board of Mois de l’Histoire des Noirs.
In 2012, Julien Reiher Umojha has entrusted the management of his career to Abena A. (Land Battered Inc.), whose mission is the realization of the single (2 tracks) “In Montreal” (already available in package concert ticket + single), and the realization of a 10 tracks album in July 2013.
