According to the Innu tradition, to play the traditional drum, you must first see the instrument in your dreams, thus began the career of Kathia Rock off the northern coast. She’s particularly inspired by the father of the Innu songs : Philip McKenzie. The young woman gave her first performances in numerous competitions within her community. Then, it is with the support of her elders that she left her hometown for Montreal. In the metropolis, she writes songs in Innu-aimun and performs on several scenes. She also learned audiovisual and multimedia productions, theater, dance, theatrical interpretation, and various vocal techniques. Many disciplines that enrich her live performances.
Kathia Rock music feeds on her dual identity, as a Quebec and indigenous singer, her warm voiceis accompanied by melodies sourcing in the ancestral repertoire of her people and in the contemporary music. This blending of genres makes the young woman a prime representative of North American culture of yesterday and today.
