MakaM is a musical project based on a ruthlessly efficient recipe, the compositions of the quintet are made from a dub reggae base that’s enroll in the traditional Jamaican culture. After several trips to Morocco and Turkey, MakaM decides to decorate there pieces with elements from the North African culture, African percussion flourish the hip-hop or rock rhythms. Within this formula, the dub acts as a welding ingredient. At the crossroads of the Middle East and Jamaica, MakaM doesn’t give in the traditional. Mixing Middle Eastern melodies, reggae / dub grooves and affiliated jazz improvisations, MakaM’s music gets canned difficultly.
MakaM feeds on the various roots of Karim Blondy who lived in North Africa, France and the United States. He is accompanied by Sylvain Beauvais on the guitar and the necessary “Drum & Bass” section is formed by Guy Raymond and Sylvain Gagné, with the whole ensemble sealed by the scratches, samples and percussion of DJ Simsonic.
