Noubi is an Afro-acoustic trio with warm sounds that are not confined to any particular musical style. Inspired by traditional West African music, Noubi takes you into an eclectic world of pop, reggae, funk and jazz.
Noubi, a mystical voice on cajón and guitar, Vincent Duhaime Perreault on guitar and Carlo Birri on bass invite you on a journey around an Afro-coustik repertory. Seated on his cajón, guitar in hand, songwriter and composer Noubi performs his inspirations drawn from everyday life in West Africa and takes us into the streets of the old continent. He grew up in a music-loving family in Senegal, where an uncle initiated him to the guitar. After several years in France, he settled in Canada in 2016. His first musical steps were taken in Saint?Louis, Senegal, with Ndiol’Or Folk.
His identity has been nurtured by his stage experience, in particular alongside Mino Cinelu (Festival de Jazz de Saint-Louis), Daby Touré (Festival Africa Muret) and Pape & Cheikh. The affinity between his guitar and his voice is the essence of his style, which he developed in the Noubi group. Through Noubi Trio, the artist offers his original compositions while sometimes bringing traditional African classics up to date. His songs often touch on contemporary issues such as migration and violence against women. In 2017, Noubi Trio received the Syli de bronze of world music. And the year remained fruitful: Noubi Trio also received several awards in the MUZ 2017 showcase: Coup de cœur ICI Musique (Radio-Canada), Audience Choice, Coup de cœur of the Festival des Traditions du Monde de Sherbrooke and finally Coup de cœur du Quartier des Spectacles. In 2018, the group was the ambassador of the Syli d’Or in the company of Bonsa and kicked off the 12th edition of the ceremony.
