Ô is a recent group of four musicians exploringa blend of different instruments, sounds, ryhtms and musical traditions. Originally, a duo formed by Philip Edwards (composition, voice, guitar and setar) and Pierre-Olivier Bolduc (percussion, didgeridoo, jaw harp) to whom are added saxophone, clarinet, flute and bass. Philip Edwards, traveler since childhood, has been exposed to a multitude of musical influences. He brought back from Chilethe rythtms of cueca of the Andes Mountains, from Brazil the bossa nova and samba. He also took singing lessons from North India and Mongolian throat singing, and practices Iranian setar as a second instrument. In order to find the balance between his breath and his hand percussion, Pierre-Olivier Bolduc, vibrates his didgeridoos and mouth harpswith “beat box” and “groove” rhythms. He is one of the few didgeridoos’ manufacturers in Quebec. The meeting between world percussions, harmonic instruments, Latin and Indian rhythms, plus Western and Eastern melodies, shows, according to Ô, that unity is in diversity.
