“Incredibly versatile, she effortlessly moves from guitar to drums while performing her own music and that of others” (Le Devoir, 2021 [translation]) In 2021, Lara Klaus earned Silver at the 14th edition of the Syli d’Or de la Musique du Monde, as well as the Conseil des arts de Montréal’s Prix Coup de Coeur. With a vibe that is at times fiery, at times subtle, Lara Klaus blends the rhythms of her native northeastern Brazil with American soul and Afro-Latin sounds using a range of Brazilian percussion instruments such as the pandeiro, alfaia and zabumba.
