MIKE PAUL KUEKUATSHEU
“Guided by the river and the spirit of the winds, his voice resonates in the universe for the protection of the living on Assi (land) and for the pride of the millennial culture of its Ilnu people of huntergatherers.” This quote from his website summarizes Mike Paul “Wolverine’’ Kuekuatsheu’s musical process. For almost 30 years his folk country/indie rock music has been speaking for Mother Earth like an echo of the river and ancient legends, a return to the source and respect for all living things, sharing his hope with the youth of Indigenous communities. The singer-songwriter’s 3rd album, Ashuapmushuan (meaning the place where we watch for moose), is a testament to his commitment to authenticity in modern times.
