RODRIGO SIMÕES QUARTET

Rhythm, improvisation, joie de vivre: far from summarizing the career of the ambassador of Brazilian jazz, these qualities highlight the passion that has consumed Rodrigo Simões since he started. Often described as a “mosaic” artist, he honors the groove of Brazilian rhythms and updates them in a contemporary style.

His first album Aos Velhos Amigos reflects Rodrigo’s taste for mixing and diversity: string instruments such as the electric guitar, the mandolin, the viola caipira and the classical guitar find a place of choice in his compositions.

An expert in Brazilian rhythms, he goes from maracatú to forró and samba with a disconcerting ease. According to his desires and inspirations, he sprinkles the choro, popular Brazilian instrumental music, with touches of jazz fusion, which he particularly likes. 

His favorite themes? Friendship, love and the passion of music of course. Beneficial and liberating, it is often described as a balm for the body and the heart, so much so that his latest album Brazilian Jazz, marked the year 2018 by being ranked among the 5 best jazz records in Quebec by Sorties Jazz Nights.

Rodrigo will be accompanied by Bianca Rocha, Elli Miller Maboungou and André Galamba.
