He has carved out an increasingly prominent place for himself in Quebec, particularly in Montreal, where he sings of the joys of winter with a sense of irony… Originally from southwest Haiti, the songwriter delivers his lyrics with true sincerity. The hardships of exile and the suffering of his people are just some of the themes that preoccupy this artist. His poetry and strong convictions have earned him many admirers.
Son of a guitarist father and a chorister mother, Jean Jean began early on to explore the music world in his own way. He soon excelled in many styles, including reggae, R&B, Afrobeat and Creole music. He has a knack for conjuring up images and life situations for his audiences, heightening their awareness of the planet’s troubles. It’s something he was also able to achieve on his album “Libre Ensemble” (Disques Nuits d’Afrique). Helping him with this project was the talented producer Sony Black, who had done the same for a young Corneille. Everything touches this artist: the state of the planet, how people relate to one another, solidarity between peoples…. That’s why he’s currently a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
Guitar always by his side (his favourite instrument since childhood), Jean Jean is the embodiment of quiet strength. And, in his naturally cheerful way, he is eager to take to the festival stage this summer!
