A superstar in his home country of Burkina Faso, Moulaye Dicko, who goes by Dicko Fils, is a wandering Fulani musician, n’goni master and singer who is second to none. Himself a griot, he takes inspiration from renowned Mande griots such as Salif Keita and Oumou Sangaré. Recognized for his broad vocal range, he made a name for himself with his first band Le Faso Kano and the 2005 release of his debut album. By 2007, he was already a shining star, performing throughout West Africa and releasing a string of albums, while in 2014, he became a dancefloor sensation with his hit single Denke Denke. An active participant in international festivals, he also collaborated on the theatrical interpretation of Antigone, inspired by the life of Nelson Mandela and is the founder of Jaango, an association that promotes education and schooling of young girls in Burkina Faso and fights against female circumcision and forced marriages. Since 2018, New York and Paris have recognized him as a true Burkinabe Ambassador for Peace but it is in Montreal where he feels most at home and chose to settle. And it is in Montreal that he launched his latest album, La Route (Disques Nuits d’Afrique/Believe) in March 2025, which celebrates life and calls for people to live together in peace and to respect the diversity that forms the foundation of our humanity. And it’s that very spirit of sharing and humanism that Dicko Fils will be bringing to the stage at this year’s Festival International Nuits d’Afrique.
