About

They blew us away with their inventiveness in creating a whole new sound back in July 2025! Now they’re back, among the artists ready to give it their all to celebrate the Festival’s 40th anniversary.

Since their debut, the Kinshasa-based collective’s trajectory has become even more international. Scheduled to perform in Stockholm at the Urkult Näsåk Festival and in Hungary at the psychedelic O.Z.O.R.A event, Fulu Miziki have won over audiences with their ‘trash can sound’ from their Kinshasa neighbourhood of Ngwaka. The six members, singing in Lingala and French, deliver an optimistic ecological message, where Mother Nature and humans coexist in peace. Their vision: Eco-Friendly-Afro-Futuristic-Punk. That’s something! In their imagination, human beings live in abundance, respecting Nature. ‘No more waste’ is their global call. The artists also wear mysterious outfits and masks made from recycled materials.

Futuristic, their appearance might make us think they’re aliens! But make no mistake, the band has its feet firmly on the ground. True to this movement of creating musical instruments from odds and ends, the musicians offer a sound all of their own. Their eponymous debut EP ‘Bopeto’ is set to take 2022 by storm. It’s an album you’ll want to listen to over and over again – it’s instantly addictive.

In their voices, an expression of Pan-Africanism, a space of boundless hope. And a wish for peace in their country, the DRC, torn apart by conflict and terrorising its people. For these artists, whom Libération describes as a “Mad Max 3.0” force, the key is to never give up and to keep believing. This optimism is paying off, as the collective is taking Europe’s festivals by storm. The ‘Twerkanda’ effect, a reflection of their artistic approach combining Afro, disco, house and Congolese soukous styles, gets people moving and jumping, all with full environmental awareness! Be there to support their cause: ‘Africa must not be the world’s dustbin.’
