KABEY KONATE

A Burkinabe world reggae singer, Kabey Konaté has opened for major artists such as Tiken Jah Fakoly at ‘Jazz à Ouaga’ and Alpha Blondy in 2006, establishing himself as a passionate ambassador for Mandinka Africa!

Lulled to sleep as a child by the songs of his griot mother and the music of his elder brother, a renowned percussionist, he took his first artistic steps in dance. Konaté has performed at festivals such as “Historique du Mandingue” in Mali and “Reggae City”. Travelling from festival to festival across the sub-region of Burkina Faso, he has graced both national and international stages. Then “Les Journées d’Afrique” in Canada opened up a whole world of collaboration for him, notably with the Jamaican reggae artist Shadrock.

Since the release of his debut album “Douaou” in 2010, followed by the EP “Africa Elections” in 2014, the singer, Kabey Konaté, has adopted a highly personal style blending reggae and world music influences with Mandinka sounds. True to the spirit of reggae, he denounces political abuses and sings for justice and democracy.
