Les Ballets Africains
Les Ballets Africains
Les Productions Nuits d’Afrique is proud to collaborate with Place des Arts for the exceptional performance of Les Ballets Africains, taking place at Théâtre Maisonneuve on February 22, 2026 at 4 p.m., as part of the Arts et monde series. This world-renowned troupe, which once included Lamine Touré, founder and president of the Nuits d’Afrique International Festival, fully embodies the spirit of the event as it prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
Founded in Paris in 1952 by the renowned Guinean choreographer Keïta Fodéba, Les Ballets Africains present a unique show combining dance, music, and storytelling, featuring spectacular acrobatics, the multifaceted intensity of traditional polyrhythms, and the power of African percussion. Les Ballets Africains captivate audiences while sharing their cultures and a message of unity. Composed of 35 members and recognized as the national dance company of the Republic of Guinea, they have toured the world many times, performing in the most prestigious theatres.
Discovered at a young age by Les Ballets Africains—then the national ensemble of Guinea—Lamine Touré learned the richness of African cultures and the importance of honoring his roots. He discovered that authenticity is key to credibility and success. This experience also inspired his desire to create a true springboard for artists: a space to be seen, assert their identity, and push their art further. These values lie at the heart of the Nuits d’Afrique International Festival. Welcoming Les Ballets Africains on the eve of the 40th edition opens the festivities with a gaze toward the past, the future… and an abundance of energy.
