Now a South African hip hop legend, Stogie T has positioned himself over the past 20 years as a kind of free electron. “He doesn’t hesitate to hold a mirror up to society and its reflection is always more complex than the self-righteous clichés of ‘conscious rap’ and the banal stereotypes of ‘commercial rap’” (RFI, 2024).
