Yafa is Sophie’s 5th single from her debut album, meaning forgiveness in Bambara. The song is about extending forgiveness to others, to ourselves, and moving forward with grace. A pulsing syncopating beat from the calabash and a simple, sweet recurring melody on kora and vocals mark the form of the song. This is Sophie’s second collaboration with renowned Malian musician Habib Koité, whose unmistakable guitar lines run throughout the song, accenting the instrumental and rhythmic sounds of Mali.
