BIOGRAPHY

If this stunning Brazilian singer is sporting a pair of high-tops, it’s because she’s in a race to find all the delights and joys that life has to offer! And her discoveries inevitably inspire her to sing and dance! She demonstrated that brilliantly during her Montreal performance in September 2022. From her rhythmic dance moves to her close connection with her Jamaican sound system, the audience couldn’t help but be captivated by this fascinating artist. Welcomed like a breath of fresh air, Flavia’s latest album, Ginga, released in May 2024, was an instant hit, earning her a place on the legendary Olympia stage in Paris. Festival International Nuits d’Afrique couldn’t have found a more spectacular artist for its opening concert, at Montreal’s very own Olympia.

From the pinnacle of her eternal youth, Flavia embraces all musical genres without ever forgetting the sounds of her beloved Nordeste. If ever a star were to reach down to take hold of her, there is no doubt that it would be the sun itself. The voice of this irresistible singer with a glorious, curly mane transcends sweetness and freshness, sensuality and desire. Citizen of the world, that’s what this roaming artist’s passport should display. By 2006, she had adopted France’s urban narrative as her own and has been singing in both Portuguese and French since her musical breakthrough in the early 2010s. The way she expresses her art guarantees a delicious musical melting pot, and we want more and more…

Flavia’s music is like a friendly invitation to Rio de Janeiro, to stroll through some of the liveliest, most vibrant neighbourhoods in the world, where joyful energy and the full range of emotions inspire people to dance footloose and fancy-free. The singer’s humanistic spirit has won over other big names such as Tété with whom she collaborated on “Mon trésor,” Ibrahim Maalouf and their zingy “El Mundo,” and the globetrotting French musician Bernard Lavilliers on whose song “O Gringo” Flavia’s voice rings clear.

As an orbiting star, this talented singer is also drawn to Africa, the heartland of musical traditions, where she has also recorded some of her songs. Flavia has renewed her pact with the solar system and her genuine fondness for others. Naturally eclectic, she assimilates pop, cumbia and electro without batting an eye. You only have to listen to “Tamarindo” and “De vous à moi” to fall under her spell, that is, if you haven’t already!
