Boubé was born in the Nigerien town of Iferouane, which borders the Ténéré desert lands and is host to the biggest festival celebrating Tuareg culture and music. And it is in the entrancing atmosphere of this oasis town, near the foot of the Tamgak mountains, that Boubé first learned to play music. Now, he sings and plays several instruments associated with Tuareg culture in a style of music common to these traditionally nomadic Berber people of the Central Sahara region, known as “desert blues.” The virtuosity of his guitar playing and his undeniable magnetism make every Boubé concert a unique experience.
This self-taught musician began touring at the age of 15. In 2012-2013, he was a percussionist and drummer for the internationally renowned Bombino and in 2013-2014, he joined the group Mdou Moctar on their international tour that covered numerous countries.
In 2024, the charismatic artist was a top finalist in the Syli d’Or de la Musique du Monde, winning the Syli d’Argent award. This experience helped him increased his visibility with Québec audiences, industry professionals and the music press alike. The award also gave him the opportunity to release his album Voyager (Disques Nuits d’Afrique/Believe) in 2025. This powerful and sensitive album, with its exceptionally catchy Afro-rock tunes, reveals his extensive talent.
