This FINA evening promises a triple feminine discovery that will mark the summer. A wild journey from Lagos, the sleepwalking capital, to mystical Morocco, then a final island stop on Reunion Island. Fasten your seatbelt, ecstasy is your boarding pass!

Maya Kamaty

A leading lady of Reunionese Maloya culture, she was deservedly chosen for the Académie Charles Cros’ honorary “Coup de Cœur” award. Her Kamaty surname destined her for a path strewn with the seeds of success. A dynamic electro-pop powerhouse, the singer draws her lyrics from her own state of mind, sketching a world far removed from picture-perfect postcards… Since the 2014 release of her sensational album Santié Papang, a different portrait of La Réunion Island has been revealed to the world, opening up new doors for the singer onto the global stage. Maya sings to reveal the faces of the marginalized and the contour of villages far from the coastal paradise set up for tourists. Her music is born of instrumentation from the island’s rich heritage, with a healthy dose of bass and hip-hop. Her song “Sovaz” (Savage in English) is a creative masterpiece!

Molyness

Molyness is a young Montreal DJ prodigy well versed in electroacoustics. Her whole being embraces and radiates the full depths of the beat. Armed with dual Moroccan-German cultural heritage and her determination, no festival can resist her! Accustomed to Montreal summers and a regular at Piknic Électronik, the artist draws her sonic fuel from sub-Saharan rhythms as much as from Berlin’s vibe to power her “melodic-techno” sound. Come dance and celebrate this fusion with the artist who shone so brightly at Burning Man, in the middle of the Nevada desert…

G L O W Z I

G born gloria-sherryl françois in Tiotià:ke/Mooniyang (Montreal) of Ayisyen parents, is an interdisciplinary artist and archivist whose work spans time and space. Their spicy, vibrant sound universe has taken them from the Boiler Room to MUTEK, via Osheaga, Unsound, the Francos and Slut Island. They mix at both SAT and Datcha, and their sets, broadcast on NTS, Lot Radio and Radio-Canada, are a concentrate of cultural connections and diasporic reminiscences.

G L O W Z I’s practice is rooted in heritage, black feminism and connection: painting, art direction, graphic design, collages exhibited alongside Stanley Février and Stefani Saintonge… They remixed King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard with Zandoli II, and opened for Sister Nancy and bbymutha, two encounters that continue to illuminate their trajectory. With each new creation, G L O W Z I build themselves up as an ancestor in the making – and take us with them.
