RICKSON MAKWE

Rickson Makwe (Makwe Bazilepo) is a blind singer, songwriter, and keyboardist from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Fluent in French, Swahili, Lingala, and English, he lost his sight at the age of 10 due to injuries from war, but never lost his passion for music. He began his career in South Africa, performing at festivals and recording original songs. Now based in Winnipeg, Canada, he continues to develop a unique sound blending reggae and rumba, inspired in part by Lucky Dube. Rickson aims to prove that blind musicians can excel just as much as anyone else—both musically and on stage. He is currently working on new tracks and a live performance video from a recent concert in Manitoba, where a group of musicians, playing together for the first time, delivered an energetic and memorable show under tight deadlines.
