LE GRIOT ET LA GRIOTTE

The show Le Griot et la Griotte is a unique immersion into the Mandingo heritage of Mali, a musical journey that blends virtuosity with reimagined traditions. The duo brings together Diely Mori Tounkara—trained by his brother, the renowned guitarist Djelimady Tounkara, and by Toumany Kouyaté, master of the kora—and Djely Tapa Diarra, descendant of an illustrious family of griots and winner of several awards, including three Junos. Together, they combine the magic of the kora with a powerful voice to bring to life a universe where ancestral rhythms, Malian blues, and contemporary sounds resonate. Their music, rich in metaphors and wisdom, pays tribute to women and to African identity, passing down stories through words and notes from one generation to the next. For 18 years, Le Griot et la Griotte have shared this cultural heritage across Canada through intimate and authentic performances that transport audiences to the heart of West Africa.
