CHOEUR BAOBAB
CHOEUR BAOBAB
Chœur Baobab’s mission is to celebrate the joy of a cappella singing and to explore the cultural diversity of world music and gospel repertoire. It is under the professional direction of Claude Marie Landré, an experienced soprano singer and choir conductor.
The choir is a vocal ensemble in search of a unique sound, with the goal of introducing songs from around the world in their original languages. It stands out for presenting concerts without sheet music. Its warm, dynamic, and high-level performances include choreography, soloists, and percussion.
The choir celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2024. Among its major achievements are two significant concerts held at the Fifth Hall of Place des Arts in 2019 and on February 8, 2026. Prior to this, it performed at various venues and events, including the Festival Nuits d’Afrique, the television show En direct de l’Univers, the Festival de Lanaudière, as well as many other concerts.
The choir also took part in the Syli d’Or Competition and was the recipient of the 2nd Prize – 2019 National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs, in the category Pan-Cultural or Traditional Folk Music. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the choir has performed at Igloofest in 2023 and has presented several concerts, including one at the École de musique Vincent d’Indy on June 1, 2024.
