About

He’s been one of reggae’s leading figures for three decades. This singer-songwriter, with a tattoo of his Caribbean island on his bicep, brings us closer to Jah as he lets loose with his fiery compositions and stories about life. The sound system king, who has even been featured on Michel Drucker’s show on French television, is keen to help us celebrate the Festival’s 40th with his irresistible groove, so brace yourselves!

Known by his stage name Admiral T, Christy Campbell’s journey from his humble beginnings in Les Abymes, Pointe-à-Pitre, took a dramatic turn in 1997 when he was just 16 years old, with his first breakthrough hit, “Rapid.” His talent is unmistakable, and his “Guada pride” is authentically Creole: he’s got charisma, guts, and excels in the art of singing and living reggae on his own terms. He doesn’t try to imitate the Jamaican style; he has created his very own.

The Guadeloupean star has sold out major venues, including the Bercy Accord Arena in Paris in 2017, when more than 18,000 fans turned out for the show. The high-energy rapper is also a producer and DJ. He’s a champion for people with autism and disabilities, and knows how to make his voice heard in defence of labour movements, particularly through his explosive song “Pété Chenn La.” A force of optimism and audacity for the youth of Guadeloupe, Admiral T spares no effort in helping them reach their full potential. Drawn to all forms of expression, he has even made a name for himself in French cinema, in Neg Marron and All Inclusive.

Generous and a born charmer, Admiral T can’t resist the ladies’ charms himself. His repertoire is filled with delightful songs of love and desire, including “Love Don’t Crack,” “My Queen,” and his “Queen of Bacchanal.” His “Rom Pom Pom” tracks roar like a lion in the jungle! Don’t miss your chance to experience him performing his raw reggae and wildcat moves live, because Montreal will be his “Terre de Champions” for one night only…
