This summer, festivalgoers will be treated to an indoor concert by the highly gifted singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Daby Touré. A true global citizen who refuses to be confined by traditional music, Daby will demonstrate through song and guitar playing the vast scope of his nomadic nature.
As the son of one of the legendary Touré Kunda band members, Daby gathered his first inspirations between Mauritania and Senegal. After 25 years in France, he decided to settle in Montreal. Through his soft folk, at times as hot and unruly as a desert wind, and influenced by his collaborations with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Souad Massi, Maxime Le Forestier, the Afro-Israeli Touré-Raichel Collective, and our very own Poirier, the globetrotter turns his attention to West-African musical traditions, infusing them with blues, jazz, pop, reggae, funk and soul.
Daby Touré has always followed his own musical path, drawing inspiration from African folk traditions and North-African blues. His songs appeal just as much to admirers of African legends Habib Koité and Youssou N’Dour as they do to Bob Marley, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder fans.
He’s been hailed by media across the globe, including in a BBC’s 2021 review that highlights Daby’s “infectious brand of global soul-tinged pop.” Don’t miss the chance to get a glimpse into his new album, a tribute to his family’s history, scheduled to be released in the fall of 2025.
