If you are at all familiar with Les Amazones d’Afrique, you will instantly recognize Kandy Guira’s voice and presence. The outstanding group, which includes Angélique Kidjo and Mamani Keita, was created in Mali in 2015 and continues to have a huge impact. Over and above Kandy Guira’s talent as a model, actress and dancer, the Burkinabé singer’s confident voice shines. Even as a child, she knew that her life would be about music—not just as a way to express herself but down to her very core. Filled with self-assurance, she worked on perfecting her vocal skills to match that of her idols, Manu Dibango and Oumou Sangaré. She then shared her gift, touring with them for several months in Europe. It was this good fortune that led her to a certain Check Tidiane Seck, iconic Malian musician from the Segou region.

Her success as a solo artist has only strengthened her commitment to music. The young artist takes pen to paper to write down everything that passes through her mind and soul. She has found her groove in Afro-electropop. Since 2019, Kandy Guira has churned out a series of albums, proving that a fresh new wind is moving through her artistic destiny. She also fervently bears witness, on behalf of the African diaspora, as on her latest album Nagtaba and with her heartfelt song, “Africa,” featuring Jowee Omicil. Singing to all the children from her homeland, she spreads a message of pride and solidarity. Because Black is beautiful!
