About
They are quite simply unstoppable. Tabou Combo, a 100% konpa band, has been spreading its zest for life and Haiti’s melodic sparkle across the globe since 1968! Nuits d’Afrique welcomed the group to Montreal with great acclaim in 2019, and now it’ll be back with twelve feisty musicians eager to get our hips moving to their addictive rhythms.
Success seems to follow it at every turn. Tabou Combo has epitomized Haiti’s musical spirit for close to 60 years. Building on the success of the song “New York City” from its album 8th Sacrement—produced by none other than Eddie Barclay—the members of this supergroup, which has gone on to produce countless hits, are ever keen to share their unique way of celebrating their island with the rest of the world, including Japan. In 2018, a triumphant concert at the Zénith in Paris marked its 50th anniversary in style, and on April 11, 2026, Tabou Combo will take the stage at the Arena Grand Paris in Tremblay-en-France to celebrate nearly six decades of making great music.
Through the years, it has managed to stay relevant and keep its traditional vibe in step with the latest trends. New instruments are breathing new life into its konpa sound, thanks to a younger generation of passionate musicians overflowing with talent. The band’s infectious energy has undoubtedly been the key to its success. Led by singer Roger M. Eugène—aka Shoubou—who sings in Creole, French and English, Tabou Combo continues to ride high with its festive songs “Pi Gro Pi Lon” and “Baissez Bas” among a slew of other upbeat gems, all immediate hits. With more than forty albums to its credit, this band has truly stood the test of time!
Singing about the beauty of life and women, as in the charming “Juanita,” Tabou Combo is all about providing a feel-good experience. A true orchestra composed of accomplished musicians spanning several generations, who play brass, keyboard, bass, guitar and drums, and are accompanied by female vocalists, it aims to delight your ears and senses. There’s no room for gloom when you’re listening to Tabou Combo—everything plays out in lockstep, with smiles all around.
