Yordan Martinez is a trombonist from Cuba who stands out for his versatility, creativity and sense of improvisation in his interpretations, arrangements and compositions.

 

Among his great achievements, Yordan joined in 2000 the band Klimax directed by Giraldo Piloto in Cuba. He recorded the album “Klimax & Friends” and participated in the tour of jazz festivals in Europe. In 2003, Klimax was invited to the Ottawa Bluesfest and following this trip, Yordan moved to Montreal. In 2008, he graduated from the Faculty of Music of the University of Montreal in jazz performance. Throughout his training, he has accompanied Michel Donato, Oliver Jones, Sophie Desmarais and Michel Legrand, among others. 

 

In 2011, Yordan Martinez won the Syli d’Or de la musique du monde, a springboard organized by the Productions Nuits d’Afrique, with his band The Cuban Martinez Show and his original compositions. 

 

From 2012 to 2021, Yordan is the musical director and arranger of Dominique Hudson for the Danza project. Since 2012, they perform in the most beautiful venues and festivals in Quebec. In 2016, Yordan Martinez signed all the arrangements for Dominique Hudson’s 3rd album and collaborated on the 4th album “Última Danza”. In early 2017, Yordan directs the show “Caliente” with his The Cuban Martinez Show musicians at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal, for 10 concerts. Then, in the fall of 2017, Yordan launched his first album that he directed and produced in its entirety: ” De Cienfuegos a Montreal “. 

 

For the past few years, Yordan has been performing more than 200 shows a year with his band and musicians. He organizes weekly Cuban evenings with a trio formula in several places in the Montreal area, in addition to programming several events, both cultural and corporate.
