BENKADI
BENKADI
Mohamed Mara began his training in traditional Guinean dance in 1992 and went on to explore the traditional rhythms of various West African countries. He also studied percussion alongside great masters such as Fodé Konate. Shortly after arriving in Quebec in 2009, he founded the Guinean traditional dance and percussion group Benkadi (recipient of the Bronze Syli at the Nuits d’Afrique Festival, 2012). Benkadi offers a vibrant mix of music, dazzling costumes, songs, and acrobatics. Inspired by Quebec’s rich multicultural heritage, Mohamed Mara has developed an interest in various dance styles, including contemporary and Quebec folk dance. The transmission of culture and intercultural exchange lie at the heart of his philosophy, aiming to foster connection and cultural blending.
