DICKO FILS

“I try to mix traditional with modern so that our music is great to listen and dance to.” Dicko Fils, who has a vocal range of several octaves, wants nothing better than to share Fulani and Dyula culture across the globe by making it accessible to all audiences. This master ngoni player, made Knight of the Order of Merit of Culture of Burkina Faso, found his musical bearings in Mali and the Ivory Coast, exploring reggae and wassoulou rhythms and taking inspiration from such greats as Salif Keita, Oumou Sangaré and Ali Farka Touré, before returning home to Burkino Faso, and defending its popular musical culture, while incorporating popular dance rhythms like coupé-décalé, an approach that has earned him a slew of West African awards.
