▷ Tarikuna | Traditional Andean rhythms (Equateur, Bolivia, Peru)

Tarikuna is a music group based in Montreal, composed of musicians from Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador, with members both born in Canada and immigrants. Their repertoire explores and reinterprets traditional Indigenous rhythms such as Wayno (Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru), San Juanito (Ecuador), Tinku (Bolivia), and Raymis (Ecuador), offering a unique fusion of ancient and modern sounds. The group is distinguished by its diversity, featuring a female vocalist and musicians playing Andean instruments such as Zampoña, Quena, percussion, guitar, bass, bandolín (an Ecuadorian instrument), violin, and charango. The Tarikuna project aims to introduce the rich cultural heritage of the Indigenous people of the Andes to Quebec and Canadian audiences. Through their music, they seek to convey their deep values of respect and harmony with nature, principles central to Andean communities long before the colonization of South America.

▷ Chibane | Pop Maghreb (Algeria)

Chibane, an Algerian singer, songwriter, and composer born in Algiers in 1984, blends various musical influences while staying rooted in his North African heritage. After being a member of Diwan Dzair and the Matouche project in Morocco, he returned to Algeria to create his own world music fusion. In 2014, he signed with One Shot and released his first album Melomania in 2016, followed by Music-Houl in 2018, combining Algerian music-hall with festive jazz. Politically engaged, he wrote songs during the Hirak protests, leading to a performance ban in Algeria in 2022. He then moved to Quebec, where he’s working on a new musical project that fuses his roots with his Quebecois experience. Chibane aims to reach a wider audience and celebrate cultural diversity, as seen in his performances at festivals like Orientalys (2022) and the Arab World Festival (2024).
