TEAM SALSA SEXTET

“Salsa is not a rhythm, it’s a concept!” [AN1] (Willie Colón, pioneer of New York-style salsa[AN2]  in the 1970s). Salsa emerged on the streets of the Big Apple, a blend of Latin American rhythms that the Cuban and Puerto Rican diaspora combined with a burning desire to forge its own identify against the backdrop of social grievances. In addition to taking inspiration from the improvisational freedom jazz and rock music, salsa emphasizes African rhythms that have enriched Caribbean folk music since the 16th century. Defying all constraints, the genre represents the same zest for life, the desire to be, to dance, that Team Salsa Sextet cultivates with its fiery percussions and powerful brass.
