About

At first glance, Pablo José looks a bit like Marc Anthony, with his slicked-back hair and a ready smile. His band will be your “mejor regalo” at this 40th Festival des Nuits d’Afrique. With the accordion central to the music, harmonies and the spirit of a sweet life are ever present. Joyful, rallying songs that will transport you to the Caribbean waves of Vallenato folk traditions, as if you were “born in the valley.”

Since 2018, Pablo José & Un Vallenato have been making waves across Canada. Their uplifting Colombian sound is in high demand; it’s so irresistible that you’ll find yourself waltzing to its rhythms. Spreading sunshine wherever they go, Pablo and his band are virtuosos of Colombia’s traditional instruments, including the caja drum and the guacharaca—a winning combination that has taken them all the way to the Latin Awards.

Eager to spread the joy of vallenato, the group has quickly made a name for itself, from Vancouver to Acadia. Their shows are traditional celebrations, featuring superb dancers who keep time with the music as they raise their arms to draw us into the dance. A wonderful modern incarnation that preserves the essence of a Colombian culture rich in rhythms and feeling. Follow the dance and give in to the temptation…
