Each edition of Festival International Nuits d’Afrique is accompanied by moments of contemplation and infinite serenity. The Nuit de la Kora invites two virtuosos of this ancient African instrument to transport us into another realm, allowing us to float weightlessly if only for a single evening.
Guinea and Senegal will become one at this year’s Nuit de la Kora. For fans of breathtaking circus acts, the name Yamoussa Bangoura will be a familiar one. Founder of Productions Kalabanté, the multi-talented Guinean artist has long been acquainted with the intricacies of the kora’s 21 taut strings, which he awakens with grace and solemnity as his mystical kora is more of a trusted companion than a simple instrument.
Senegalese Senny Camara shows that women have a place amongst griots! She is renowned for three remarkable gifts: her voice, her instrument, and sacred harmony. This spirited young woman honed her melodic talents at the Conservartoire de Dakar and the Conservartoire de Saint-Denis in France. She carries on the griot tradition by exploring styles that embody freedom and free expression through blues and folk. It’s impossible not to be captivated by her artistry, described by the daily Libération as the irresistible expression of the “caress of her fingers.”
