About
This local band, whose sound is inspired by Algerian music, exudes youthfulness and radiates extraordinary brilliance. Dzdia describes them as a “supergroup born of a shared love of performing and celebrating.” On the Montreal nightlife circuit that includes Café Gitana, the seven artists are known for their connection to the popular bands Babylone, El Dey and Freeklane. Awarded this year’s Syli Bronze de la Musique du Monde, Bastin Band has big plans for the coming months as they get ready to take the world by storm!
It’s quite the story that connects these outstanding musicians to Montreal. They each arrived here from Algeria with a desire to have a good time making music, preferably in the night! There is Ramzi on guitar, Fadi on piano and Yacine Haddad on drums; Zaki plays the darbouka, Yacine the bass, and Khalil percussions; Adel, a natural behind the mic, lets loose with this new, plural sound. The result is a fusion of jazz, rock and raï, with mind-blowing keyboard solos—an incredible ensemble that literally lifts you off your feet.
Opening for the cult band Index at the National in October 2025, Bastin Band is one of Montreal’s secret treasures. Get ready for a great show because this band has every intention to blow you away! It might even become your new favourite at the Festival’s 40th anniversary.
