Are you craving some cumbia with a psychedelic rock edge? Montreal is lucky to have a group of musicians that not only excels at the highly danceable style but has also developed a very local take on it: “Aweye,” a popular expression in Quebec meaning “Let’s go!,” highlighting a shared connection as these South American superheroes continue to
take Montreal’s venues by storm. With eight musicians and vocalists, Cumbia Control is a good reflection of the city’s diversitynot to mention its boundless talent. Its delightful musical cocktail can be savoured like a journey to distant lands awash with new experiences. Expanding beyond traditional cumbia,
the group, which came together in 2024, incorporates musical elements drawn from their Montreal experiences, with the electric guitar setting the urban tempo. The result is songs that you’ll find yourself happily humming along to, including their cover of “Senderito de Amor,” an inviting “little path” of love and of the soul. In keeping with their musical influences, which span from Colombia to Chile, Cumbia Control has a unique, infectious sound that transcends those borders. It’s a rich musical blend that courses through your body like an electric current. Let yourself be swept up in the groove
and dance to its delightful rendition of the Colombian song, “La Zenaida.” Pure delight!
