Born from a lineage of drummers-composers by his great-grandfather, Donald Dogbo is initiated to the drums at a very young age. He joined several groups through which he developed his talent and began touring throughout Africa.

In 2002, he enrolled at the Conservatory of the National Institute of Arts and Cultural Action in Abidjan where he followed an intensive one-year training. He then moved to Senegal in 2004, where he became Didier Awadi’s drummer and toured the world while working with several other renowned African artists such as Mao Otayeck, former bandleader of Alpha Blondy, who was also Stevie Wonder’s guitarist.

In 2014, he decided to immigrate to Canada, and immediately found his place in the Montreal, Quebec and Canadian artistic communities. He had the opportunity to record with artists such as Elage Diouf, Zal Sissokho, Wesli, Djely Tapa, Just Wôan and Ilam.  Today, Dogbo is constantly on tour and takes advantage of this opportunity to share his passion, especially with masterclasses offered to young people.

The year 2021 sees the release of Donald Dogbo’s first album, “Coubli” under the label Nuits d’Afrique, an invitation to travel in his native language, Bété. Through his album, Dogbo further develops the marriage between traditional rhythms of Central Africa, West Africa, jazz and fusion. The creation of this album stems from the different musical and cultural encounters he has been exposed to since Africa until his arrival here in Quebec.
