About
United by their shared passion for West African rhythms, the members of Taafé Fanga offer, through their performances, a unique experience where music and dance blend into one. Inspired by their travels, experiences, and encounters, the troupe’s members redefine and adapt this artistic language to reflect their own vision—in a contemporary, urban style—while honoring the West African traditions that inspire them.
Renowned for its dynamic and impressive performances, Taafé Fanga has made a name for itself on the stages of numerous dance and world music festivals across Quebec for the past fifteen years. Its album Tamala, produced by Senegalese artist Élage Diouf, was released in 2012. Winner of first prize at the 2007 Les Syli d’or world music competition, the group notably opened for the renowned Youssou N’Dour at the Olympia as part of the Nuits d’Afrique Festival.
Taafé Fanga received a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to record the album Tamala. Several members have also received individual grants from the Canada Council for the Arts to further their artistic development. For their work and determination, Taafé Fanga won first prize at the 2007 Syli d’Or World Music Competition organized by Nuits d’Afrique Productions, as well as the Montreal Mayor’s Youth Foundation Grant for the production of his first show at the Just for Laughs Museum Cabaret.
