Athenea Y Su Candela is the more personal project of young Cuban singer, composer and dancer Mélanie Fowler, who also fronts Q’bolà Orchestra, a group that covers classics from the Spanish-language repertoire and American pop. With Y Su Candela, Athenea unleashes her creativity and tackles themes dear to her heart, such as the challenge of integration, which she experienced in her late teens. But be warned: Athenea Y Su Candela is far from sad! Intensified by a flamboyant stage presence that the singer has been working on since she was very young, her mix of ’70s Latin music and pop influences, Cuban rhythms and Mexican harmonies, is an invitation to celebrate and dance.
