Lorraine Klaasen

Lorraine Klaasen, daughter of legendary South African jazz singer Thandie Klaasen, is one of the few South African artists to have preserved the classic “township music” sound, which continues to be the most distinctive music to come out of South Africa. Born and raised in Soweto, Lorraine has electrified audiences worldwide with her artistry and dynamic stage presence. Lorraine was inspired by South Africa’s musical giants of the 1950s and 1960s, such as Miriam Makeba, a close friend of both Lorraine and Thandie, as well as Dolly Rathebe, Dorothy Masuka, Sophie Mgcina and Busi Mhlongo, regular guests in her mother’s home. After being an integral part of Festival International Nuits d’Afrique from the start and dubbed its Queen, Lorraine is returning to the stage to celebrate her distinguished 40-year career.
