▷ Melodji | Bayan rhythms, Blues, Afro-pop (Chad)

Ménodji Clarisse, known as Melodji, is an iconic figure in contemporary Chadian music, recognized for her powerful and emotional voice. Passionate about music from a young age, she founded the group Matania in 2001, winning several awards, including a gold medal at the CEN-SAD Games in 2007. As a solo artist, she expanded her reach in Europe, the United States, and Canada. Her debut album, Ta Horndal (2013), followed by Minoh (2023), showcases her artistic evolution. A self-taught artist, she also pursued training in Côte d’Ivoire and Lyon. As an ambassador for Chadian culture, Melodji explores social themes, particularly love, peace, and the condition of women in Chad. With Nd? diyan, an homage to Chadian cultural heritage, she blends traditional repertoire with contemporary genres such as soul, funk, afro-pop, jazz, and blues, creating a unique musical experience. A passionate advocate for women’s rights, Melodji uses her music as a powerful tool for social change, addressing injustices and celebrating the female voice.

▷ Dumai Dunai | Dub-punk slave (Bulgaria, Ukraine)

Slavic dub-punk missionaries Dumai Dunai have been winning the hearts of audiences all over the world since they first burst onto the scene in 2022. With members from Ukraine, Bulgaria, Canada, and the USA, the seven-piece combines the deep grooves of dub with the energy of punk rock, the raw ecstasy of the blasting horns of Balkan wedding brass bands, and the joys and sorrows of Ukrainian village polyphony. In 2023, the band embarked on their first international tour, with dates at Tallinn Music Week (Estonia) as well as in Latvia, Poland, and Germany. In the same year, Dumai Dunai toured in Canada, playing at Newfoundland Folk Festival, BLOK Festival in Toronto, and played an official showcase at Mundial Montréal. 2024 saw the release of their debut album “Sometime Between Now and Never,” which received excellent reviews and a nomination for Global Roots Album of the Year from the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Dumai Dunai supported the album release with concerts in 8 countries, including a set at Colours of Ostrava Festival in Czech Republic. Featuring past and present members of the Lemon Bucket Orkestra, Boogat, and Bad Uncle, Dumai Dunai exists somewhere between the underground scene of their beloved Montreal and the mountains and valleys of their Slavic homelands. “An intelligent partying kind of a band.” – Songlines Magazine
