A flashback to the height of the Motown era, straddling the end of the sixties and the start of the seventies… Only the Righteous, which came together in 2017, is reminiscent of Marvin Gaye (they did a great cover of What’s Going On) and Stevie Wonder’s early music. Onto their cleverly crafted “sound of young America[AN1] ” image and graced by Clerel’s unique, sensual voice with a pop flair, Only the Righteous juxtaposes jazz, R&B, soul and hip-hop with kompa, makossa and bend-skin influences.
