▷ Rickson Makwe | Rumba, pop, reggae (Congo)

RicksonMakwe (MakweBazilepo), born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is a blind singer-songwriter and keyboardist fluent in French, Swahili, Lingala, and English. At the age of 10, he was blinded by injuries sustained during the war, but his passion and determination for life have always driven him to share his zeal through music. Rickson later moved to South Africa, where his love for music flourished. He began his career touring with a band, performing at festivals, and recording music. Despite finding success in South Africa, he felt the urge to follow his heart and move to Canada. In Winnipeg, where he now resides, Rickson has found the space to truly express his creativity. His music blends Reggae, inspired by artists like Lucky Dube, and Rhumba, with the aim of offering fresh and unique sounds. Rickson wants to show that blind musicians can excel just like anyone else, both in music and performance, believing that the visual aspect of a show is as important as the sound.

He is currently working on new songs and a performance video from a recent concert in Manitoba. Though the musicians had never played together before, it was a memorable show with great energy despite tight timing.
