With Peace In Africa, his first international album, the Senegalese singer and multi-instrumentalist Cheikh Ibra Fam adds new nuances to the spectrum of African world music. A first album rooted in Africa and open to the world

This first international solo album, made up of 11 exceptional tracks with Afro-pop colours and accompanied by clips that “call for a journey”, reveals the great quality and eclecticism of this highly talented artist. This first opus is the fruit of this musical catalysis, both anchored in Africa and open to the world, connected to his roots and resolutely contemporary.

A RICH AND ECLECTIC ALBUM

The programmed beats intersect with the kora (Peace In Africa), the brass is invited behind a guitar inherited from Senegalese folk (Yolele), an air of Cape Verde floats here (Diarabi), there it’s the skank of reggae that brings its groove (Diom) to evoke these young Africans who cross the seas to try their luck in the West, and elsewhere the artist sings in Bambara a tune from Mali, where his mother is from (Ayitaria).

MANY DISTINGUISHED GUESTS

Among those who came to contribute to Peace In Africa was Cheikh Lô, one of the figures of Senegalese music with whom Cheikh Ibra Fam shares the fact of belonging to the Baye Fall community. The French-Cape Verdean reggaewoman Mo’Kalamity also came to share the microphone, while Mamy Kanouté, who has been accompanying Baaba Maal for many years, was in charge of the backing vocals. The “dads” of Orchestra Baobab occupy a special place on the guest list: Thierno Koite, the saxophonist who thought of his young compatriot when a place in the group was vacant, and of course the late Balla Sidibé, a founding member of Baobab of which he was one of the singers.
