Discover Alé (Voyé Limyè), the new single of Senaya, officially released on January 12, 2023.

Alé (Voyé Limyè) is a call. A call to the light, a call to the ancestors, to the ancestors of the Guadeloupean people, to those who fought to be born to be, the first inhabitants of Guadeloupe, the Arawaks. The video clip was shot in the town of Trois-Rivières in tribute to the first inhabitants, the First Nations of the island of Guadeloupe.

Alé is also an awakening, asking people of all nations to wake up so that we can create a true solidarity. Alé is also a sob so heartbreaking that the voice can no longer speak words so it starts to wail, thus reminding us of the “moaning” found in the Negro-Spirituals. Alé is the call of the drums, it is the Gwoka which is put forward, traditional music of Guadeloupe, the rhythm of the Carnival, Mas in Saint-Jean, but also of the Menndé one of the 7 rhythms of Guadeloupe. Alé is a call to humanity for everyone to do their part. It is a call to humanism and to put the human being at the center of life.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

SENAYA

Senaya illuminates the stage, fiercely and magnificently free. This guitar-playing, singer-songwriter and composer, who earned a Canada Council for the Arts grant, deftly blends African and Caribbean rhythms with jazz, funk, blues, folk, R&B and traditional spirituals into her SoûlKreôl with finesse.

The singer-songwriter call her music soûlkreôl. Upon hearing Senaya, you travel from blues to folk by way of funk, jazz, zouk, gwoka and biguine to reach Afrobeat and makossa sounds, in French, English, Wolof and Creole.

Senaya is a multidisciplinary artist – a lyricist, composer, singer, poet, guitarist, producer and entrepreneur. Self-taught from the start, she has asserted her unique, powerful style. Born in Dakar to a Senegalese father and a Guadeloupean mother, Senaya has lived in both lands. These multicultural origins have shaped her art: a firmly rooted style of music. If Black music were a tree, Senaya’s music would not be missing any roots.

In 2003 and 2004, she was named winner of the year at the Granby International Song Festival and received the Coup de coeur award at the Vues sur la relève festival. In 2005, she co-produced her first album, Garde la tête haute, which earned her a Juno. With her sister, she set up her own production company to serve her yearnings as an independent artist. Her warm, haunting voice and incredible stage charisma enhance an extraordinary musical style that warms the soul and celebrates life.
