About

Who ever said that reggae’s only home port lies in Jamaica ? There is also one in Réunion, thanks to this young artist tuned into the Afro-reggae beat. Already with Endemik, a first album of hits songs, Sika Rlion aka Jessica Virama, both feet firmly planted in her own reality, has demonstrated her mastery of the genre and its philosophy. Singing in Creole and French, her language remains universal, blending rap and dancehall with a ton of soul.

A veritable sensation on social media platforms and honoured at the Reggae Dancehall Awards, this outstanding artist shatters all stereotypes with her down-to-earth personality. No makeup, no flashy outfits, just sheer talent. In her song “Valèr,” which has garnered almost two million YouTube views, she sings of unshakeable hope, beauty in the world, and a deep connection to her Indian Ocean culture. Her lyrics and vibe convey a desire for what truly matters as she sings about strong family ties in the tender reggae tune “Vanille,” while in “Ti Gratel,” she pokes fun at flashy men who go overboard in their efforts to seduce.

Generous by nature, Sika shines in duets with her Creole brothers Oeson and Marshall, or when collaborating with the Réunionese band Secteur 410\. And that radiance is completely natural, no surprise coming from someone whose creative drive lies in the art of being herself. Jah has chosen her, a blessing and message that finds resonance in her music. Proud of her Maloya roots, the history of her ancestors, and the resilience of her people, the singer-songwriter dips her pen into that past to bring it to light and honour it.

This summer will be her first time performing at Festival International Nuits d’Afrique, where she’ll draw on the power of reggae to introduce us to her outlook on life. A unique opportunity to soak up her energy while swaying to the beat. Rastafari all the way !
